Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Lab

The cells that make up our bodies are surrounded by a non-living tissue substance known as extracellular matrix. Our lab is interested in developing materials called hydrogels that mimic the properties of this matrix in order to study how tissue growth is guided by the chemical and physical properties of the matrix.

We are particularly interested in developing high-throughput approaches to study these interactions more thoroughly. We’re looking at ways of synthesising biomaterial libraries that will allow us to find the best hydrogels to use in conjunction with various kinds of 3D cell cultures, such as organoids grown from cancer or stem cells.
