Step 1 - See a Doctor

FDA uses "prescribe" to describe legal terms. A doctor cannot legally prescribe marijuana because it is not approved by the FDA.

Doctors can recommend cannabis use to patients with certain medical conditions in order to circumvent the legality of "prescribe". Oklahoma's medical card doctors understand the importance and difference between prescriptions and recommendations.

Are You Qualified for Medical Marijuana?

If you have a qualifying condition, your doctor may recommend marijuana. These conditions are usually spelled out in detail in most states. Oklahoma doesn't have this requirement.

• Proof Of Identity: A document or card to prove that you are who you claim to be. You will need a driver's license, an Oklahoma identification card or a passport issued by the U.S. Government.
• Proof Of Residency - You must prove you are an Oklahoma resident. A copy of your Oklahoma driver’s license or identification card should be provided. A voter identification card, the utility bill for the month preceding your application date, a residential property title to Oklahoma property, or a current rental agreement can be used. You cannot use your utility bill to pay for a cell phone, internet or other device.
• A photo: Clear, colorful, digital photographs are required.
• Physician Review Form: This is the Adult Physician Recommendation form that your doctor has completed for you. This form must be dated within 30 calendar days of you applying for your MMJ Card. This form must be completed by your doctor. If anything is missing, your application may be rejected.
• Medicaid and Medicare Insurance: Include your Medicaid or Medicare card or enrollment documentation.

After you have all your documentation, visit the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority page. You will need to fill in basic information.

The standard application fee of $100 will be charged. You will need to pay a $20 reduced fee if you have Medicare/Medicaid insurance. The MMJ card is valid for two years and the application fee must be paid only once.

Step Three: Wait

The recommendation of your doctor for marijuana use does not guarantee that you will receive your marijuana immediately. The paperwork will still need to be processed.

The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Association will usually respond within two weeks. The OMMA will not issue a card if you do not send in your application. The OMMA should contact you within 14 days, regardless of whether or not you get a card.

Your MMJ card is valid for 2 years after it has been issued. This process is not necessary again after the card expires.
