Course info

This beginner’s course introduces the fundamental principles and practical techniques used to design and fabricate microfluidic devices. It is ideal for people with at least a BSc in science, or studying for one, who are completely new to microfluidics and microfabrication, and are planning on applying it in their research or work.

Held across three days at the Francis Crick Institute in London, and mixing classroom-based theory with laboratory-based practical sessions, participants will gain hands-on experience with the core processes behind lab-on-a-chip systems.

The course has been developed by experts from the Crick’s Making Lab science technology platform (STP), which provides expertise to research groups across the institute in microfluidics, biomaterials, electronics, optics, mechanics, and micro- and macro-manufacturing.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the principles of photo and soft lithography for microfluidics
  • Apply their newly acquired microfabrication skills, from conceptualisation to characterisation
  • Set up simple microfluidic circuits for their own research questions

Candidates are required to apply below. Applications will be reviewed by the lead educators and successful candidates will be invited to register. Registration fees are £655; discounted registration fees of £524 are available to staff and students from Imperial College London, (UCL) University College London and King’s College London.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will close once all spots are filled, so apply at your earliest convenience to avoid disappointment.

By applying and/or registering to this course, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the Terms and Conditions.
