Timothy Nguyen

Doctoral Clinical Fellow

Timothy Nguyen is a psychiatrist and scientist.

Timothy first obtained double bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Human Biology from the University of California San Diego and then worked as a research associate with Professor Ian Everall investigating mechanisms of HIV neurodegeneration and gene-environment interactions in major depression, which motivated his interest in psychiatry. He then completed his postgraduate medical degree from the University of Melbourne and started psychiatry training in Australia before joining the Maudsley Training Programme to further expand his horizons. Inspired by the patients he had the privilege to treat, Timothy was eager to return to the research bench to better understand the biological mechanisms underpinning psychosis and improve therapies.

In 2022, he was the first psychiatrist awarded a Crick Doctoral Fellowship for Clinicians to complete a PhD and his project investigates the role of the immune system in psychosis and potential immune-related treatment targets.
