These are the terms and conditions under which The Francis Crick Institute Limited (“the Crick”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) provide training courses (the “Training”) listed on our website https://www.crick.ac.uk/careers-study/technical-training (our “Website”) and bookable via our online learning platform (the “Platform”).
Please read these terms and conditions carefully before either applying or registering for the Training on our Website and/or booking your Training on the Platform. You should understand that by finalising your application or registration and/or booking the Training, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. You should also retain a copy of these terms for future reference. If you do not feel able to accept and meet these terms and conditions, do not proceed with your application or registration and payment.

If we have to contact you we will do so using the contact details you provided to us at the time you made your booking.
- Application, registration, and payment
a. In-person Training
In-person Training requires a prior application process due to the limited number of places available. You may apply for a place on our in-person Training via our Website. The application process usually takes four to six weeks after the deadline for submission.
The outcome of the final selection and, if you have been selected, the invitation to complete the full registration and make the payment of the Training fee, will be communicated by email.
If selected, you are expected to register for the Training and pay the registration fee immediately after the selection confirmation email. You will receive a link to the Platform to complete your registration for the Training.
Registration for the Training is subject to payment of the Training fee. Payment will be processed via a secure online payment module (Stripe) which you will be directed to automatically from the Platform. Stripe will collect your payment and billing information which we and Stripe will use to process your payments.
Once you have made payment, you will automatically be sent a confirmation email to confirm your registration.
b. Online Training
You may register for a place on our online Training if there are places available via our Website. You will be directed to the Platform to initiate your registration for the Training. If there are no places available you will not be able to register.
Registration for the Training is subject to payment of the Training fee. Payment will be processed via a secure online payment module (Stripe) which you will be directed to automatically from the Platform. Stripe will collect your payment and billing information which we and Stripe will use to process your payments.
Once you have made payment, you will automatically be sent a confirmation email to confirm your registration.
- About the training
a. In-person Training
The Training shall take place on the date and at the venue stipulated in your booking unless otherwise changed in accordance with clause 5.
We shall use our reasonable skill and care to deliver the Training and comply with information we have provided to you about it.
b. Online Training
In advance of online Training, both parties will make best endeavours to ensure that the agreed digital platform is accessible and capable of delivering/receiving the Training to an acceptable standard.
We shall use our reasonable skill and care to deliver the Training and comply with any information we have provided to you about it.
We shall not be liable for fault or failure of the agreed digital platform that may occur during the delivery of the Training, should it be outside of our control.
- Provision of the Training
You are solely responsible for determining whether the Training is sufficient and suitable for your needs. We do not provide any guarantee in respect of the standard of the Training or your abilities after attending the Training.
You will provide us with all information reasonably requested by us in connection with the Training.
You agree to comply with all applicable instructions, policies, and procedures of the Crick.
We reserve the right to refuse your participation in the Training, or (in relation to In-person Training) exclude you from the venue and use of our facilities, or remove you from the Training if:
a. you do not comply with all applicable instructions, policies, and procedures of the Crick which includes, but is not limited to, these terms and conditions;
b. you have not completed our health and safety modules to access our laboratory space which you will be able to access online ahead of the Training;
c. you do not comply with our health and safety policy and instructions applicable to the Training;
d. you do not keep confidential information shared with you by other participants as a group or on an individual basis; or
e. you do anything which at our absolute discretion we deem to be unacceptable or might be likely to bring the Crick’s name or reputation into disrepute.
- Our intellectual property and confidentiality
All intellectual property rights in or arising out of or in connection with the Training, including any associated materials or documents that are prepared or provided by us as part of the Training, shall be owned by us.
Nothing in these terms and conditions shall give you any right or other licence to use, copy, disseminate or distribute, make available, modify, record, replicate, reproduce, republish, share or otherwise use or exploit in any way any intellectual property arising out of or in connection with the Training (including any associated materials or documents) without our prior written consent. For the avoidance of doubt, this includes recording or replicating the Training itself.
You shall keep in strict confidence any confidential information concerning the business of the Crick that is disclosed to or obtained by you during the Training or through the use of any associated materials or documents that are prepared or provided by us as part of the Training. You shall not make use of or divulge to any third party any confidential information you may gain as a result of any visit to the venue.
- Cancellation and amendment
a. If you cancel your booking
If you wish to cancel your participation in the Training, please contact us using the email address listed in clause 2.
If you wish to cancel your participation in In-person Training the following rules apply:
- If you cancel more than 42 days before the date of the Training, 100% of the fees you have paid for your Training (the “Training Fee”) will be refunded minus an administration fee of £20 (the “Admin Fee”).
- If you cancel between 42 and 31 days before the date of the Training, 50% of the Training Fee will be refunded minus the Admin Fee.
- If you cancel less than 31 days before the date of the Training, no refund will be given.
If you wish to cancel your participation in online Training the following rules apply:
- If you cancel more than 30 days before the date of the Training, 100% of the Training Fee will be refunded minus the Admin Fee.
- If you cancel between 30 and 14 days before the date of the Training, 50% of the Training Fee will be refunded minus the Admin Fee.
- If you cancel less than 14 days before the date of the Training, no refund will be given.
We will aim to process your refund request in five to seven business days.
b. If we cancel or amend a Training
We will inform you about cancellations, postponements, and amendments to the Training with as much notice as possible.
We reserve the right to:
- change or amend the Training structure or content;
- change or amend the individuals responsible for organising and/or delivering the Training; and
- change the course venue.
In the event that we cancel or postpone a Training, we will offer you a place on the next available Training. Alternatively, you may ask for a refund by emailing or writing to us using the contact details listed in clause 2. We will aim to process your refund request in five to seven business days.
- If there is a problem or you have a complaint
If you have any questions or complaints about the Training, please contact us using the contact details listed in clause 2.
- Liability
a. Our liability to you with respect to the provision of the Training, the cancellation, postponement, or amendment of the Training, any negligence, or arising in any other way out of the subject-matter of these terms and conditions is limited to the amount of the Training Fee.
b. This does not limit or exclude in any way our liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that by law cannot be limited or excluded.
c. Our liability to you will not extend to:
i) any indirect losses or damages, or to any loss of profits, loss of contracts or opportunity, whether direct or indirect, even if we had been advised of the possibility of those losses or if they were within our contemplation;
ii) any loss or damage to your property; or
iii) any costs or expenses incurred by any person or organisation in connection with travel, accommodation, reservations or other arrangement.
Views expressed by the individuals delivering the Training are their own. We do not accept any liability for advice given or views expressed by the individuals delivering the Training or in any notes or documentation provided to you.
While every effort is made to ensure that our Training is relevant and topical they are not tailored or bespoke for specific organisations or individuals and therefore all warranties for fitness for purpose and all other express and implied warranties are excluded to the fullest extent lawfully permitted.
- How we may use your personal information
The purpose for processing the personal information you will provide to us is to:
- process your payment(s);
- facilitate your registration and attendance at the Training;
- deliver the Training to you; and
- to give you information about any other training we offer. To stop receiving this type of information contact us using the details provided in clause 2.
Your personal information will be processed in line with the principles and requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR and in accordance with our privacy policy, which is available on our website https://www.crick.ac.uk/about-us/privacy-policy.
We will only share your personal information with third parties where the law requires us to do so.
- Other important terms
a. We are not liable for any failure or delay in the performance, in whole or part, of any of our obligations in connection with the provision of the Training arising from or attributable to acts, events, omissions or accidents beyond our reasonable control.
b. Nobody else has any rights under these terms and conditions. These terms and conditions are between you and us. No other person (including delegates whom you have booked places for) shall have any rights to enforce any of its terms.
c. These terms and conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. The English and Welsh Courts will have exclusive jurisdiction to deal with any dispute which has arisen or may arise out of or in connection with them.
