Cell Science : Services

Techniques

We continue to provide a high level of both practical and advisory support to the scientific community at the Crick.

Our dedicated, experienced team work together to fulfil cell culture requirements, purified antibody, cell authentication and mycoplasma-screening requests. In addition, we provide regular tissue culture training and refresher sessions.

Cell line services

  • Cell line service

We have a large repository of cell lines which can be requested either as frozen vials, large- or small-scale growing cultures, or as cell pellets.

  • Mycoplasma testing

We operate a quarantine facility, dedicated to receiving cell lines and initiating cultures. These cultures remain in the facility until they have undergone mycoplasma testing and are cleared for use within the Crick. By using advanced techniques such as agar culture, and highly sensitive real-time PCR we ensure quicker and more accurate detection.

  • Quality control testing of cell lines

We offer a complete quality control service for cell lines, including cell line authentication (STR) and species identification.

Monoclonal antibody service

We have a repository of 375 hybridoma cell lines and provide a service for monoclonal antibody production and purification.

Conditioned media and FBS service

We provide a variety of conditioned media (Wnt3A, RSPO-1, Noggin, L-cells, L929, (LCCM), GM-CSF, L-WRN) and FBS for Crick scientists.

FreezerPro database and Cryostore

We manage the central cell line repository stored in the Cryostore at our facility. The cell line information is maintained in a searchable, web-based database called FreezerPro, which is accessible to all Crick users. This centralized resource facilitates efficient tracking of cell lines and helps prevent unnecessary dispersal of cell lines throughout the Institute.

Customized project support

We provide comprehensive support and expertise to Crick scientists for their cell-based projects. This includes assistance with setting up and optimizing large-scale cell cultures using cell factories, roller bottles and spinner flasks. Additionally, we offer guidance and support in establishing in vitro / 3D cell-based models.
