Roderik Kortlever obtained his PhD in the lab of René Bernards at the Netherland Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, where he uncovered tissue microenvironment control by oncogenes and tumour suppressors. He pursued his post-doctoral studies in the lab of Gerard Evan - first in San Francisco, then at the University of Cambridge, and now at the Crick in London. He discovered that oncogenic Myc collaborates with Ras in lung tumour progression by directly programming inflammation and immune suppression. To pilot tumour regression he now focusses on the interplay between Myc, homeostatic immunity and tissue regeneration.
