With a career spanning over 15 years in genomics, Robert Goldstone brings a wealth of expertise to his role as Head of the Genomics STP at the Crick. He holds a PhD in molecular biology and has a strong research background in multi-omics, primarily of bacterial pathogens of medical and veterinary relevance.
Since joining the Crick in 2017 as a Bioinformatics Officer, in a joint role between the Genomics STP (then the Advanced Sequencing Facility) and the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics STP, Robert has consistently taken on new challenges and advanced to roles including the Project Manager and then Deputy Head of the Genomics STP.
During the Covid pandemic, Robert played a pivotal role in the institution's COVID-19 response, designing and implementing a critical sample tracking system that supported the processing of thousands of PCR samples to support staff, hospital patients, and local care home residents. This achievement, alongside his experience as the Head of Process Improvement, demonstrates his ability for driving operational effectiveness. Returning to the Genomics STP in 2025, he combines deep scientific knowledge with proven leadership to guide the team's continued success.
