Marc Burillo Garcia

PHD Student

Marc graduated from a Double Bachelor's in Mathematics and Fundamental Physics at Universitat de Barcelona in 2024. As undergraduate, he did several internships in Structural Biology, Complex Systems and Neuroscience. In the next academic year, he completed an MSc in Biophysics and Soft Matter at École Normale Superior (Paris), which offered him the opportunity to introduce himself into multi-cellular systems physics and did his dissertation on modelling Xenopus Laevis gastrulation via Cell Potts Model supervised by François Graner and François Fagotto.

In 2025, Marc joint the Hadjivasiliou Lab as a PhD student. His driving question is understanding robustness in developmental biology and he is studying the implications of a multi-scale feedback between morphogenesis and tissue patterning. During his PhD, he aims to develop a theoretical framework that allows characterising the consequences of these feedbacks when they operate close to criticality. He uses mathematical modelling and computational simulations to achieve this and he will be in collaboration with experimental biologist to test the framework developed.
