Course info

ilastik is a free, open-source, and truly user-friendly image analysis tool that can help you leverage machine learning algorithms to easily segment, classify, track, and count your cells or other experimental data. Most operations are interactive, even on large, multi-dimensional datasets – just draw the labels and immediately see the result. No machine learning expertise is required.

On this one-day course, held at the Francis Crick Institute in London, you will learn how to perform automated pixel- and object-level segmentation, object classification, and tracking. The course will be presented by Dominik Kutra, Senior Research Software Engineer from EMBL, and hosted by Stefania Marcotti from the Advanced Light Microscopy facility at the Crick.

Participation in this course is application-based. Candidates are required to apply by completing the application form. In case of over-subscription and multiple applicants from the same labs, we will attempt to distribute the available places evenly. Applications will be closed on Friday 20 February 2026, and successful candidates will be notified by Friday 27 February 2026. This is a FREE course and open only to staff and students from the Francis Crick Institute and partner universities: Imperial College London, UCL (University College London), and King’s College London.

Who should apply?

Anyone willing to learn how to analyse and automate their image analysis. No prior experience is required, although a basic understanding of microscopy and image acquisition will be beneficial.

By applying and/or registering to this course, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the Terms and Conditions.
