Biomechanics and Signalling Laboratory

We focus on understanding how mechanical forces shape the cardiovascular system.

Using advanced imaging techniques and a zebrafish model, we study mechanisms behind normal and pathological heart development, with a particular focus on cardiac valves and blood vessels morphogenesis. By combining biology, physics, microscopy and informatics, we develop cutting-edge tools to visualise, manipulate and analyse how mechanical stimuli influence heart structure and function.

Our ultimate goal is to harness this knowledge to understand how to engineer cardiac tissue and enhance the body's regenerative capabilities.
