To pass this course, you will need to complete a online theory exam and a practical assessment at your establishment. The assessment must be carried out by a trained assessor, NACWO or RAnTech within the animal unit.
You will be assessed on the following learning outcomes:
- Demonstrate appropriate techniques for the safe and competent handling of relevant species.
- Be able to handle or pick up and restrain an animal and return it to its cage or pen in a calm, confident and empathetic manner such that the animal is not distressed or caused harm.
- Proficiently and humanely carry out euthanasia using appropriate techniques on a relevant species of laboratory animal.
- Demonstrate how death is confirmed and how cadavers should be processed or otherwise disposed of.
