The Hansen lab focuses on the characterisation of protein dynamics using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. Integration of deep learning techniques with NMR spectroscopy is a major research area of the lab.

We are globally recognised for spearheading the development of combined deep learning and NMR approaches, which involves both developments of deep learning architectures and tools, NMR pulse sequences, and isotope labelling schemes. We currently have a strong focus on assessing uncertainties of transformations carried out by deep neural networks as well as out-of-scope / out-of-distribution detection.

We are particularly interested in the dynamics, function, and regulations of human histone deacetylases (HDACs), general regulation of enzymes and protein folding.
