David Briggs

Principal Laboratory Research Scientist

I'm a Principal laboratory research scientist in the Signalling and Structural Biology Laboratory, run by Professor Neil McDonald.

In addition to running my own research projects, my primary responsibilities are to take care of the X-ray crystallography done by the group and to maintain our mammalian cell protein expression platform. I completed my PhD in X-ray crystallography under David Moss at Birkbeck College, and I have over 20 years of experience in protein X-ray crystallography.

I am an active member of the UK crystallography community and sit on CCP4 working group 2 and the Diamond User Committee.

I have extensive experience with protein-protein and protein-small molecule interaction assays (such as SPR and ITC) as well as other structural biology techniques such as small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS).

My primary research interests are in structure-function relationships in mammalian extracellular proteins and protein-sugar interactions.
