Cesira De Chiara
Senior Laboratory Research Scientist
- Email Address: Crick email
Cesira's research interests focus on the study of the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and allosteric regulation of essential M. tuberculosis enzymes. The research is developed using mechanistic enzymology and structural biology by X-ray crystallography and solution NMR spectroscopy
-She received her MRes in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 1992 at the University of Naples (Italy) discussing a thesis on the isolation and identification of marine natural compounds with potential pharmacological activity
- In 1998 she was awarded a PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics by the University of Genoa (Italy) with a thesis on the structural basis of protein thermostability from moderate thermophilic bacteria
- From 1998 to 2001 she did her first Postdoc at the University of Parma (Italy) researching on the structural properties of bioactive peptides
- In 2002 she moved, as a Senior Postdoc, to the Div. of Molecular Structure of NIMR of MRC (London-UK) in the group led by A. Pastore where in 2005 she became Senior Investigator Scientist. As a biophysicist and an NMR spectroscopist, she developped a project investigating the function and the patogenic role of human Ataxin-1 involved in the hereditary disease Spinocerebellar Ataxia type-1
-From 2013 to 2023 she moved to the Carvalho Lab at NIMR-MRC where in 2015 she became Principal Laboratory Research Scientist at The Francis Crick Institute (London-UK)
-From 2023 to 2024 When Carvalho Lab relocated to the US she joined for a short term the newly established Morreale Lab to help with the start-up
-April 2024 to December 2024 Visiting Scientist at The Crick at the MRC Biomedical NMR Centre
-January 2025 to date Laboratory Research Scientist in the Rittinger Lab where she has joined the Prosperity partnership team
