Areas of interest
Our group's research is divided into four main themes:
Theme 1: Interplay between immunity and pathogenicity in COVID-19
Theme 2: RNA-driven molecular virology of RNA viruses
Theme 3: Molecular analysis of antigenic shift in RNA viruses
Theme 4: Exploring RNA biology to improve vaccines
The first two themes concern research seeking to gain a better understanding of the ‘fundamentals’ of virology and immunology, working from the 'top down' from the clinical to the molecular.
The latter two themes exploit this knowledge to understand key ‘special cases’ of this biology: how viruses escape immunity within a given population through the acquisition or wholesale modification of their antigens (Theme 3) and how this biology can be exploited to improve vaccines (Theme 4).
